Singer Johnny Preston was born on this day in 1939.  Preston is best known for his #1 hit “Running Bear.” “Running Bear” was written by J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), who also provided backing vocals.  The song was released in June 1959, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1960.
