ARE YOU A FRY GUY?

They come in so many shapes and sizes that it could make your head spin. Regardless of how you like them or your choice of condiments, not many people can have a burger without them. It’s National French Fry Day!

I’ve never been a huge fan of fries. When I hit a fast food place, I generally will choose to have a burger and a chicken sandwich or some other combination of sandwiches. Most folks can’t get a Big Mac without an order of fries. I don’t know why everyone seems to think that fries are a necessary part of any meal.

Potatoes can be dished out in innumerable ways: baked, boiled, mashed, souped, scalloped, shredded, chopped, sliced, grilled, or even french fried. Why then do so many people have such a passion for the one variety that comes with every value meal?

Perhaps fries are so popular because of the countless ways that one can top them. Plenty of people enjoy fries with just a dash of salt. Others may prefer their fries with any one of many condiments. Though ketchup is usually the champ here, I’ve heard that many Europeans enjoy their fries with mayonnaise. To each their own, I guess.

Some folks take fries to a whole new level. Canadians, for example, often top their fries with cheese and gravy, practically changing the very nature of french fries. They call that poutine.

I, for one, most enjoy fries when they are positively smother in vinegar. I prefer my fries to be incorporated into a potato and vinegar soup of sorts. I do quite enjoy them with ketchup as well.

No matter how you prefer your fries, today is the day to indulge. Grab a tall order of french fries today; It’s National French Fry Day!
