A one-vehicle crash Monday morning in Huntingdon County claimed the life of a Petersburg woman.  State Police say 35-year-old Megan Hoffmaster lost control of her Mazda on Route 4004 (Barree Road) in Logan Township just before 10:00 am yesterday.  Hoffmaster’s vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment before traveling back onto the road.  The Mazda slid on its passenger side before coming to rest on its roof.   Hoffmaster was not wearing a seatbelt and airbags did not deploy.

Tonight is National Night Out across the U.S., observed annually on the first Tuesday in August.  Shining a spotlight on police programs, National Night Out increases connections between those who serve and their communities, and helps build a solid stance against crime.  Locally, National Night Out will be at Rec Park in Lewistown from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.  Police, Fire, EMS personnel will be on hand along with local organizations.  There will be food, games and music.  You can see police vehicles, fire apparatus and EMS vehicles. There are scheduled visits from the Life Flight helicopter and a helicopter from the Pennsylvania State Police.  The Lewistown Giant Food Store will be providing food free of charge to all attending.

Work on the Route 322 – Potters Mills Gap project continues with “around the clock” hours.  The westbound detour resumed Saturday. PennDOT says through August 10th, drivers can expect delays and detours as the project continues.   Motorists with specific schedules and time deadlines are encouraged to build at least 30 minutes of extra travel time into their plans.  Drivers may wish to use alternate routes.  Alternate routes may require traveling additional miles, but they can help avoid major delays.  PennDOT cannot guarantee that alternate routes are free of road work or delays.  Message boards throughout the region will alert drivers to the work and the westbound detour.

Authorities arrested a Lancaster man for drug possession.  State Police at Lewistown stopped 21-year-old Damon Cooney on Route 22-522 in Granville Township Saturday evening.  He was found in possession of marijuana, prescription drugs, and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop for speeding.  Charges were filed through District Court.
