Representative Glenn Thompson (PA-05) has introduced a bill that will invest in the next generation of farmers and help them pay back their student loans through an existing program geared toward public service. The Young Farmer Success Act would provide incentives to those perusing careers in agriculture by adding farmers to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. That program currently includes professions such as government service, teaching, and nursing. Under the program, eligible public service professionals who make 10 years of income-driven student loan payments can have the balance of their loans forgiven.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro says the announcement that Aetna Incorporated and Humana Incorporated are abandoning their merger plans is good news for Pennsylvania seniors. The decision by the health insurers follows a recent Federal court order blocking the merger, which was opposed by the Office of Attorney General. The Aetna-Humana merger would have impacted 454,000 Pennsylvanians who have health insurance through either company, and would have led to higher insurance premiums and lower quality health insurance for seniors. A judge in the District of Columbia issued an order last month stopping the merger from going forward. The decision by Aetna and Humana means that they will not appeal the decision.
