A new Pennsylvania hotline to help connect grandparents who are raising their grandchildren to the resources and programs available to them is now active.  The KinConnector hotline was established through Act 89 of 2018 to address the growing number of grandparents who have become primary caregivers to their grandchildren. The situation has grown in recent years due to the state’s opioid epidemic. An estimated 82,000 grandparents are the sole caregivers for nearly 89,000 grandchildren in the Commonwealth.  The hotline can be reached by calling 1-866-KIN-2111 (1-866-546-2111).  KinConnector is staffed by social service professionals providing guidance and access to local, state and federal resources.  A website will also be available in the future.

The Mifflin County DUI Task Force will conduct impaired driving enforcement operations as part of the National Impaired Driving Crackdown Campaign thru the Labor Day holiday which runs through Monday, September 2nd.  Operations will include sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols.  Law enforcement reminds drivers to be aware of the alcohol content of what they are consuming.  The DUI Task Force is comprised of police departments in Lewistown Borough, Armagh and Granville Townships, along with Mifflin County Regional Police, and Mifflin County Probation and Parole.

A new pattern for westbound traffic is now in effect on the Route 322 – Potters Mills Gap project in Centre County.  Westbound traffic no longer uses the crossover, but instead uses the new local access road (Route 2015) east of the intersection with Route 144. The new traffic pattern will be in place for the duration of the project.  There is a 12-foot width restriction on the western end of the project between Route 144 and Mountain Back Road, and a 14-foot width restriction on the eastern end of the project between Sand Mountain Road and Route 144.  With the Penn State football season starting August 31st, PennDOT encourages drivers to check roadway conditions.
