President Trump has rescheduled his visit to Beaver County’s newest economic driver. White House officials confirmed that the president will tour Shell Chemicals’ ethane cracker plant in Potter Township on August 13th. A visit slated for August 8th was postponed after the two mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to fourteen years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering. The U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said Joseph Richard was sentenced on August 6th. According to the U. S. Attorney, from 2015 through 2017, Richard transported bulk heroin from Philadelphia to associates in Danville and Bloomsburg, who would then repay Richard using a credit union account. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the FBI. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime.
Representative Rich Irvin (R-Huntingdon/Centre/Mifflin) will host veterans’ assistance hours at his district office in Huntingdon next Wednesday (August 14th) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Veterans can meet with a service officer from the American Legion, and learn of benefits and services available to them, including compensation, pension, death benefits, education and health care. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services. Irvin’s district office is located at 612 Pennsylvania Avenue in Huntingdon. In an effort to combat DUI and reduce DUI-related crashes, State Police at Newport will be conducting DUI checkpoints in Perry County throughout the month of August.
