The Mifflin County DUI Task Force will conduct impaired driving enforcement operations as part of the “Operation Safe Holiday” period, now through January 1st.  The task force is committed to reducing the number of impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities in Mifflin County.  Operations will include sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols.  Law enforcement urges the public to read warning labels on prescription, or over the counter medications, and celebrate responsibly.  The DUI Task Force is comprised of police departments from Armagh and Granville Townships, Lewistown Borough, and Mifflin County Regional Police.

The Juniata River Valley will be “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” later this week when the 23rd annual Festival of Ice kicks off in Lewistown.  This year’s festival welcomes new activities along with traditional favorites.  New this year, will be a tree lighting ceremony by Geisinger Hospice, and free kids’ crafts at the East End Coffee Company.  The Festival of Ice is Thursday (December 5th) and Friday (December 6th) in Downtown Lewistown.

A new survey from the nation’s oldest consumer organization finds more American consumers plan to do their Christmas shopping online rather than in stores this year.  According to the Consumers’ Research 2019 shopping survey, 31% said they will do most or all of their shopping online, while 25% of respondents indicated that they intend to do most or all of their shopping in a store.  The preference for online shopping jumped four percentage points after holding steady at 27% in 2017 and 2018.  The survey also found that spending quality time with loved ones, sharing great meals, and spiritual reflection are all things that help make the Christmas Season the merriest it can possibly be.
