The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has released an update regarding the investigation into “grain-free” dog food. The third update correlating “grain-free” food with increases in heart-related issues in dogs was released on June 27th. The President of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) clarifies that there is no need for panic, saying that ‘Correlation does not equal Causation.’ The FDA has not issued any recalls for the “grain-free” foods. If you have concerns about your dog, consult with your veterinarian. Signs that your dog might be affected by a heart condition include coughing, being more lethargic, tiring more easily on walks, possibly fainting or getting very weak, loss of appetite, and sometimes swelling in the abdomen. If you see any of these signs in your dog, it is important to have them checked by your vet.
