The Wolf Administration has released a weekly status update detailing the state’s mitigation efforts based on the COVID-19 Early Warning Monitoring System Dashboard. According to the latest data, Juniata, Centre, Columbia and Indiana counties were in the substantial level with known sources of outbreaks contributing to community transmission. A federal judge has struck down some of Pennsylvania’s coronavirus restrictions as unconstitutional, including the closure of non-life-sustaining businesses.
Investigators in Huntingdon County say the death of a man in Robertsdale was due to natural causes. State Police responded to the area of Coles Valley Road in Wood Township on September 10th. The death of the victim, a 50-year-old man from Six Mile Run, was ruled natural by the Huntingdon County Deputy Coroner.
A Loysville man was scammed out of $600 last week. On September 9th, the victim received a call from an unknown male with an Indian accent claiming he was “Officer Kevin White” from the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. The caller provided the victim’s Social Security Number and other personal information and told him his information had been compromised. The victim was instructed to purchase a $600 prepaid VISA card and furnish the numbers to the caller.
A $100,000 grant has been awarded to Friends of the Embassy Theatre Inc. According to Rep. John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin), the funds are to used for upgrades to ensure the historic theater in Mifflin County is usable by modern audiences. The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program. The Embassy Theatre in Lewistown was built in 1927. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Friends of the Embassy Theatre purchased the building in the early 1990s.
Today is the United Way’s Day of Caring. Day of Caring is an annual United Way volunteer event that kicks off the yearly campaign on the third Wednesday in September. The day involves employees first-hand with area charities.
